Daily Quiz #25

By Kaarel Koivupuu

What are data repositories called where data is stored in its natural raw format? The object blobs usually are raw copies of source system data - using this data typically requires subsequent transformation, which then allows for reporting, visualisation, analytics, machine learning, and so on.

The term was coined in 2010 by James Dixon to contrast data marts, which are smaller repositories of interesting attributes derived from raw data. The idea behind the questioned principle would be to eliminate the problems of data marts - such as data siloing - by using a distributed file system such as Apache Hadoop.

Answer to yesterday's question: Azure, initially Windows Azure, currently Microsoft Azure. Essentially it is a large-scale virtualization platform at Microsoft data centers offering a total of 800 services. Often combined with Kubernetes Service you can deploy production-ready Kubernetes clusters in Azure.
